MICHAEL STECKY
Michael Stecky is a Toronto based artist with a multifaceted practice.
Often using repurposed materials and labour-intensive craft he creates sculpture, paintings, videos, audio works and convergences of those media.
Stecky has a strong interest in creating aesthetically compelling objects that have a conceptual aspect and that relate to the history of painting and sculpture. The art he creates is often slow to realize, involves a gathering of specific found material and then the transformation of that material using a finely developed idiosyncratic craftsmanship.
Stecky’s work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including at Karl Oscar Gallery and Wilde Gallery in Berlin Germany, Artscape Youngplace, and The Drey in Toronto, The Winnipeg Art Gallery, as well as Plug-In ICA, Winnipeg.
His videos have been broadcast on the CBC, Spanish Public Television, Metropolis and at festivals in Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, Japan, China and Portugal.
